covers, flags.

A donation was accepted from a classmate towards the Ankeny Area Historical

Society Barn fund. Additional donations were made from the class for a total

alive, please donate or at least buy a family membership even if you don't live

in Ankeny.

Thanks again for attending the reunion. The committee has a lot to do to make

it worth your trip home, we appreciate your attendance.

We hope to see you again in five years for the next formal reunion..........

OOO RAH OOO RAH ANKENY OOO RAH!!!!!

40th Reunion a Success

Another great party. The committee
thanks everyone that attended. We will
be starting soon, to play party #45 or to
just have a meeting to check out new
venues. Middle of the week party?
Sounds like a plan. Spread the word
to classmates that did not attend and
get them back for #45 or for sure.......
#50! this year's 50 class only had four
tables, let's double that number in 10
years!

Fred left before the group picture was taken!
Gary Warner and wife sneaked into the party
and then she lost a cherished bracelet. Jan
Coon is listening in while Diane talks.
Joni is shocked at her HS cheerleading photo?

The Party Continues
Mary Beth ran the trivia contest. Last
two standing, Mick and Carol.....Carol
was the winner. First one out? Jo Ellen!
Beckie Bair came to her first reunion
and brought along her yearbook so she
could have a chance to remember her
classmates....no problem, we all look
the same as we did 40 years ago!

More Party Pictures
How dare these girls, smoozing
up to Mary Beth's Pole-ish
boyfriend!

Group Photo

Name that tune.......who's who??

Lots of chatter at the reunion. When
we tried to watch the Ankeyny Alumni
video, it was so loud, the TV was
turned up to 100 volume and we still
could not hear the speaker!

Just a few pictures from the week end
I will post more later. If anyone has
photos, please put them on a disc for me
to add to the class memoribilia files...

GOOD LOOKING GROUP OF OLD FARTS

We had a great reunion last week end. Oregon,
Florida, Minnesota, Texas, Big Red Nebraska,
Cambridge, Carney, Ankeny and Des Moines were
all represented as well as more from the
central Iowa area. I think I count 29 in
this photo and 17 spouses. About 5 no shows,
but close to 10 changed their mind and made
it back home. We are doing this again in five
years, first week end after the 4th of July, so
put it on your calendar.

THE TIME IS NOW...

Today is the day.....if you are in central Iowa and reading
this.....get into the shower, get cleaned up, get in the car
and get yourself to Ankeny......We will have a nice group of
about 50 classmates and guests. Great food on the menu, cash
bar, fun games and a lot of time to gossip about teachers and
fellow classmates that are not attending.....Juicy!!!

I hope to see you this evening, 6PM until Midnight.....

OOOH RAH OOOH RAH........C

money for the party, no one will be turned
away, just let me know via e mail, telephone
or snail mail with money....ASAP.....thanks.

On the road again.....come on home.......

Thanks for your input this past week. The
letters are coming in slowly and it looks
like we will be having a good sized group
for the reunion.
This bird is a pelican down in the valley.
Pretty hard to take photos while on the beach.
Its hard to find them in the air and then
focus, they fly by so quickly.
So, classmates, fly on home in July for
our BIG 4-0 reunion. June 3rd was graduation
day, also my one year anniversary of
retirement and just on the radio, the #1
song of the week....Aretha....R-E-S-P-E-C-T!
Hope to see ya'll soon...come on home.....

HELLO......

Almost a month has passed since my last entry. What is going on? In this day and age
of mass communications.......what gives?

The committee has done a lot of work to make this year's reunion a big success.....but
we need responses from our old friends..........

I have been the class recorder for 30 years and would love to have responses from every
class mate every year, even if you don't want to attend any of the activities...Once every
five years is a lot to ask........I guess......This won't go on for too many more years......you
will get one item in the mail and that will be all......no need to waste any more class money
on postage or printing if you do not reply..........go figure.........think it out.........

Just send an e mail or a picture postcard, it isn't too difficult......

PLEASE.......let me know about your life.........we have some classmates that do not want to
be involved, but just let me know and I won't bother with mail to you.......

July 13, 2007 AHS Alumni Banquet OLIH Church $25 alum and dues,$18 guest
July 14, 2007 AHS Class of 67 reunion, $25 couple, $15 single, if late, you can pay at
thedoor for the class party.......alumni has a deadline of June 30.........

Classmates......we need some answers from you.....are you coming home? YES, I hope.

Do you remember your friends and whose memory you are? Come home and have a
great time...

anyone have some great trivia from our time in the Ankeny School System? Send it to me
at my e mail address. Best one will win a prize.....we have three that are stumpers.........

Come home for a luncheon on Thursday and or Friday........we can do the beer tent in the
afternoon if anyone is interested............we will tour Ankeny, donations for gas will be
required..........gas prices are out of control............

Come on Home Ya'LL............

Sunday, May 06, 2007

Hey Classmates.......are you making plans to come
home in July? I hope you have received your newsletter and information
for our class party. Please fill out the papers and return them to me
soon. We would like to have everyone that has skipped our reunions to
reconsider their thoughts and COME HOME........

We would like to have every classmate to come home before the end........

HEY, you might be someones memory from high school and they didn't
tell you.......New friendship is in the air.......we can e mail,
fax, use the cell phone (lots of minutes?) Just do it, contact me
and I will give out the addresses of whomever you would like to
contact.

Come Home in July.............

Monday, April 30, 2007

the Newsletter is in the Mail

I have the first step of work done, your newsletter from me and the Alumni Assoc is in the Mail.....
Snail mail.....I enclosed an addressed envelope, so please send back the information sheets and
make a donation to the alumni, your class, and come HOME for the reunion.

sometime this week we will have another committee meeting, to finalize plans, or make more
plans. If we finalize too early, we won't need anymore meetings.....Bad!

Comments? Click on the comment line, sign in as anonymous to comment, and at least
let me know who you are, sign your name, thanks.

88 today for a high, DSL is hooked up at home, no more trips to the library. Does anyone have any
fun stories about Kirkendal Library? Who was that skinny, mean man that was the first Librarian?
Do you remember Butch Spinks taking out the health encyclopedia and asking HS girls what
age they were and how they compared to the photos? Nasty. Today that would be harassment!

Hope to hear from you soon.....

Sunday, April 15, 2007

Hey Classmates, what is going on?

We still need some ideas for the reunion party.

Do you want a band? Live music or just back ground music?

This winter Texan is on the way home, soon to be a full
blown Ankeny resident again for a few months............

Party time in July, so get ready for some fun...........

Please reply to this forum...........C

Happy Easter Classmates,

I have been searching online for addresses of lost classmates.
I have found a couple, more than a couple.....I will be sending
out postcards soon to see if I have matched name and age.

Still on the missing list:
Cyndie Shadle
Becky Rounds, Angela Rabe, Linda Potter

Linda Potter was at AHS for one year, her family moved to
Ankeny from California. I feel she is probably lost forever,
unless she takes the initiative to contact us. Same for
Cyndie Shadle, they moved in across the street from me,
her senior year, from Ames. She hated it, Ames was her
home!

I will be home in about two weeks to start up the final
work on the class reunion. Any suggestions.....let me or
the committee know.....

Mary Beth Justice Overton
Denny Evans
Teri Hess Berglund
Gary Roberts
Cyndy Lammert

Or add a comment to this blog......we will contact you.

Hope to see you in July.....ooh rah ooh rah Ankeny ooh rah!

Saturday, March 31, 2007

Here's the list I need help with. I have signe on with classmates.com
and sent out a bunch of e mails, no replies yet. These people are either
ones that have been lost for a while or their addresses are expired:

dennis Beard,Pat Wissink, Calvin Foster, Jean Torrence guthrie, Randy
Aunspach, David Brown, Harriet Day, Ed downard Jr, Eddie Hall, Cyndie
Shadle, Alan Shoemaker, Linda sloan, Don Hoskins Stoll, Gary Warner,
Gary Waters, Scott Wilson, Larry Pitts, Linda Potter, Angela Rabe,
Becky Rounds, John tock, Mark Westrom.

#2 for everyone that was ever in the band, a pom pom girl, a baton
twirler for the marching band......you are being honored this year
at the alumni banquet. The committee would like photos, news articles,
memories from high school years. Please make copies or send items
to me or the alumni association. It is important to help the alumni
association with this, as I did the girls basketball honor group
a couple years ago. I received a lot of help and appreciated it
tremensously.

This photo has nothing to do with the reunion, it is just a big
cargo ship down in the Gulf off of South Padre Island........
see you this summer...........

CAN YOU DIG IT BABY?

Anyone out there remember Sly and his song? Back to late
60's or early 70's......

I can dig it, you can dig it, we can dig it, they can dig it, you can dig it........

Can you dig it baby? On the oldies station the other day....

I remembered the words, guess I am getting ready for the class reunion.

anyone out there want to do Karaoke at the reunion? We can have some
kind of 60's revival, name that tune?

I will be home at the end of April and you will get more news about
the reunion as soon as the Alumni newsletter is ready........

Carry on.......stay warm.........Texas is wonderful.....right Dari and Jim?

The Weather is Great in Texas

How green is the grass? At my mobile home in Texas
and on my street, there is NO grass, it is only a
mass of green weeds. I think I will find some weed
killer along with some drought resistant grass seed
to spread out. That would mean firing up the lawn
mower, since the neighbor that mows for us would
have to do more work.

Does anyone out there in AHS land have any ideas for
the reunion? do you like the idea of the "over the
hill" theme? Come on you old foggies, let me know,
or call denny evans, Mary Beth Justice Overton, Debbie
Terrell, Teri Berglund, all in Ankeny, and give them
some input.......you have my e mail addy.....
Buenos tardes classmates.............

The Saylorville White Pelicans made it to the Valley. They
are on the golf course at Palm View in McAllen. I played with
some fellow Iowans in the Golden Olympics at this course, we
finished tied for 4th with a 66.

Anyone else out there make a decision about attending the
reunion? Que Pasa Amigos?

On Top of the Lighthouse at Port Isabel

I had a great day to visit the Island so I went to the top
of the Lighthouse finally. Shot some great photos. I am
actually looking for AHS classmates and laughing about
how small the reunion will be with only about a dozen
signed up so far.....What's the word classmates?

Stormy Weather

That's a fact, no ice or snow, but all rain for the month of January. The newspaper
reports the worst January in 20 years for weather. Many nights in the 40's, that is freezing
cold for the Valley. At home that is equivalent to ZERO degrees.

I am doing some crafts, picking up sea shells out on the island and gluing them to picture
frames. Pretty cool, I inherit this skill from Aunt Jean that did all kinds of diddly things,
from ring making, stone carving, make bolos, belt buckles......ear rings....et all. No sewing,
the other cousins are into the antiques, as in furniture, not me, I want comfortable chairs
and sofas.....

Five months until the reunion.........any more thoughts about activities for the week end?

Thursday we can have a luncheon at the Bear or Clipper or someplace else in Ankeny.

Friday, Golf in the morning, Alumni dinner in the evening (6-9 PM) and then the Beer
Tent

Saturday morning the annual Summerfest parade to celebrate our reunion and birthdays......
Denny, Cyndy , Mark, Steve......who else?

Saturday evening THE CLASS OF 67 PARTY...........

Sunday??????? Brunch at the old restaurant on S HWY 69, it used to be Traders, who
knows what the name is now........

We need suggestions for events.....tours? Want to see "Our Home Town?" It has grown
in the last 40 years....we are about37,000 now..........

I would love to hear from you regarding the party or JFK....Just For Kicks.........

Carry on...............C

This is the latest committee meeting down on the beach in Texas.
You will notice I am lying down taking pictures of the sand
castle which we are going to build to have our reunion in.....
HO HO HO.........In your dreams! It would be nice to have a
party down here, when the sun shines it is the greatest place to
be. A long way from home, where there is NO ocean or beach like
this.come on down classmates..........

I FINALLY HAVE IT RIGHT

How do you like the official colors? AHS....Maroon and gold Fight Fight!

I thought you would like the new colors of the blog, so let me hear from
you about the colors and ......ARE YOU COMING TO THE REUNION?

Bundle up.....long johns and boots.........

The Furnace is Running Here TOOOOOO

Anyone out there actually warm? It looks like Florida is the
only place on the map that shows warm weather these days.
I have had some 80 degree days and have NOT even turned
on the A/C, but I am getting great use of the furnace. Weds
8AM, 39 degrees in the Rio Grande Valley while it is ZERO
in Ankeny.

Ayone out there making plans to come back home for the
reunion in July? I sure would like to hear from you, with
money, so we can make plans. Please write or e mail me
soon to let me know what your plans are. I'd like to hear
from you one way or the other, YES you are attending, NO
I am not attending. That way we can make an educated
guess on the food to order for the dinner....YES, we are having
a catered dinner!

The Rio Grande Valley is usually HOT. Not this week. Our
high might reach 60, but we carry on. They have been
cancelling events, like school and meetings, due to the
ice on the highways....They get very nervous in South Texas.

Well, I know how to bundle up and will be off to Mexico on
Thursday for some shopping and some lunch and some
margaritas.....all day is happy hour at La Galeria`.

Stay warm, turn up that electric blanket......Senorita Paca....
(That was my Spanish Class name with Senora Pratt)

Remember who used the name Guido? After Senora
Pratt's husband? A real comic in our class....one for the
quiz at the reunion......

Thursday, January 11, 2007

HOW IS THE IOWA WINTER?

Well, in the Valley, we are having the same as Iowa, temps up and down, no rhyme
or reason. I thought I would have 70 or 80 degree weather all winter long. How does
this sound for next Monday thru Thurs? 59-49-52-57......these are the guessed,
daily HIGH temps.....I guess I won't go to the beach next week or get in any golf!

I think we now have about a dozen people signed up for the class reunion. Max
said he will attend. My old neighbor, he lives in the Chicago area I think. I have not
checked it out on Rand McNally...Pamm harkin is coming from the Quad Cities...
how about you folks in Minnesota?

DON'T SCHEDULE ANYTHING FOR JULY 12-15.......We will have a lot to do on a
long week end....lots of retired classmates in Ankeny.....

We need a great showing for the alumni banquet on Friday the 13th as well as our
own party. The alumni dinner and banquet is a great event. All of you from
instrumental Band, please let me know what you have in your scrapbooks for
the show the evening of the banquet. My biggie was a blue ribbon on the
baritone sax, junior high, at the event at Simpson College. The latch on the case
broke, I dropped my sax. When I started my performance, with Becky Nielsen
as my piano player....I was off tune.....Well, Mr Shepard was in the audience,
he called time out....made some repairs due to dropping the sax......i guess
I did good, a blue ribbon and then a movie with ????

What was your big event? The organizers would like to know and would
like photos, newspaper articles, your old set of drums?

Keep it in the middle......of the fairway.........keep your head down and
follow thru..........

Let me hear from you my friends..............

Monday, January 01, 2007

The Countdown Begins

That's right classmates, it is time to send in your money and make
your reservation for the class reunion, dig out the golf clubs and
make a trip to the Dome or go south and get ready for the Alumni
golf event on Friday the 13th, and go on that diet!

Seven months and counting and I think the calendar pages will be
torn off before you know it. There are a lot of things to do in making
plans for our party. As of Jan 1, 2007, we have the committee and
three others lined up to attend. Several have sent acknowledgements
that they are planning to attend, a good start on July 14, 2007.

Was Santa Claus good to you? I hope so. I found out what a real
Texas New Year's Eve party is like. It is just like the 4th of July
complete with fire works and pinatas and food and drink and
more food.......Short night for me, had to get out of bed in time
to see the Rose Bowl Parade and the first of five football games.
I love this day, relax and watch some great sports. Even Bobby
Knight won today, they love him down here in Texas.

Hope to hear from ya'll soon. don't forgot to change your
calendars......C
